Build a currency-pair practice plan

Start with a clearly identified currency pair and chart interval. Record the session time and timezone, how a setup is recognised, and when a trade becomes invalid. Reusing the same rules makes it possible to compare sessions; changing the rules after a loss makes the sample harder to interpret.

A forex simulator is useful for practising the sequence of decisions. It does not establish that the same fills will be available in a live market. Spread assumptions and the distinction between bid and ask prices belong in the record, especially when stops and targets are close together.

Sessions, costs and market data

  • Keep London, New York and Asian session tags consistent, including daylight-saving changes.
  • Record whether results include spread, commission and slippage assumptions.
  • Identify whether volume means tick activity or executed trade volume from a particular feed.
  • Compare outcomes for the same setup before combining different currency pairs.

See the forex volume data guide for the difference between tick volume and venue-specific trade volume.

Review your simulated forex trades

Use trading statistics to compare average win, average loss and sample size, then review the sequence of losses through risk management. A high win rate can still accompany a negative average outcome if losses are much larger than wins. The expectancy calculator shows that relationship with editable examples.

Questions about this topic

Does forex simulation guarantee live profitability?

No. A simulated sample describes results under its stated assumptions and cannot guarantee live outcomes.

How does forex practice differ from general simulation?

Currency practice needs explicit pair, session, timezone, spread and data-source assumptions. The underlying execution and review process remains the same.
