Volume Profile and Activity by Price
A volume profile groups activity by price across a chosen range. The range and underlying data are part of the definition, not optional details.

Open the TGSFX application →What a volume profile measures
A profile displays the distribution of the chosen activity measure across price levels. The point of control identifies the price row with the largest measured activity under the current grouping. Value area refers to a range selected by the indicator’s specified calculation and percentage.
Changing the session, price-row size or data source can change the profile. Record those settings before comparing days or instruments. The profile describes the selected history; it does not guarantee that a price will attract or reject future trading.
Session profile versus a selected range
A session profile uses a defined trading session. A selected-range profile uses start and end points chosen for an analysis. Both can be useful, but moving the range after observing a price move can make an interpretation appear more precise than a prior decision would have been.
Keep the timezone, overnight treatment and session boundary consistent in a review. Compare the same measurement before drawing conclusions from a change in shape.
Check the meaning of volume
Reported trade volume, forex tick activity and crypto base or quote volume are different measures. The forex volume data guide covers why a profile is only as interpretable as its feed definition.
For additional platform-specific calculation details, consult TradingView’s volume profile documentation. TGSFX’s footprint overview explains how a bar-level view differs from a profile.
Questions about this topic
Is the point of control always the same price?
No. It depends on the selected range, row size and underlying activity data.
Does a volume profile predict direction?
It describes a historical distribution. Directional interpretations require separate rules and testing.
